Abstract of the Paper : Of Vulnerability and Coercion : A Study of Sex Trafficking in Assam/Sawmya Ray.-Sociological Bulletin 64(3), Sept-December 2015, pp.305-324

Abstract of the Paper : Of Vulnerability and Coercion : A Study of Sex Trafficking in Assam/Sawmya Ray.-Sociological Bulletin 64(3), Sept-December 2015, pp.305-324

"This is paper discusses the political, economic and socio-cultural context within which trafficking of women and girls take place for commercial sexual exploitation in Assam.  Specifically, it examines the relation between existing gender norms, prevailing conflict and sex trafficking.  It is based on data collected from rescued trafficked women, state and non-state anti-trafficking personnel, and case studies collected from NGOs.  It argues that gendered norms intersect with existing political economy factors to doubly disadvantage women vis-a-vis trafficking, both during times of normalcy and conflict."

Attended SL Patil's Sons Marriage at Gulbarga ....

It was indeed an unique occasion to attend marriage ceremony of my friend S L Patils son at Gulabarga on 5th Feb 2016. I must profusely thank my friend for the kind invitation. The ceremony was well attended by his relatives, professional colleagues and friends. I once again wish the newly married couple (banker and engineer) a happy and prosperous married life.

This event facilitated me to find my Classmates/friends (MA Sociology, Gulbarga University, 1982), interact with them and reminisce old memories after 30\+ years ....

  1. Senior student of MA (sociology) : Dr.Shankar Jogan (currently VC of Kuvempu University)
  2. Classmates I met : Bangargi, Ankal, B.S.Police Patil, N.C.Warad, BB Kalgi, Nayeemunnisa. Interacted with other classmates over phone : Sulochana, Somasekhar, Akhter Begum, Rabia Khanam and others.
  3. Other friends : Shetgar,Teja Holkunde,
What can else b more gratifying than meeting friends after so many years. One can never b casual and free with any one in life except for ones classmates/friends.

Thank you SL for all the hospitality expended and the opportunity you created for our classmates to meet and talk. Hope we would be able to meet often at least now onward.... wow what a feeling.!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
